Does Collecting Really Bring You Happiness???

Hello vintage lovers!! Today I am writing a post about collecting and does it really bring you happiness?? I do feel like looking for and finding an item does bring happiness but what comes after... That is a whole other story..
I am not one of those perfect collectors, I do not buy something take it straight home and display it. No, I am more of a "I love this let's buy it then I can put it in a box somewhere till I have a place to put it" collector. Maybe if you are a bring straight home and display collector you are happier (????).
Don't get me wrong I love my stuff that is for sure and I love the thrill of the hunt but what I don't love is the hoard that is accumulating. That for sure does not bring happiness but I have thinned my hoard some. I had a yard sale a month ago and got rid of some plus what didn't sell went straight to salvation army. I wasn't bringing that stuff back into the house no way.
I had emotionally gotten rid of it even if  it didn't sell. Because you see I am a hoarder but I am also trying to work on that. I have to be ready to get rid of something to sell it or donate, so I have to be emotionally unattached to the item. Most of the time there is not an emotional attachment I just think there is money to be made for more thrifting and do not want to get rid of it because of that.
Plus I have gotten to a point where I am no longer just thrift shopping/going to yard sales. I have crossed over to online shopping (shutter) for my vintage items. Which I said would never happen but I guess it is true to never say never. Also I do want to say that the only items that have been bought off line are things I truly wanted and do make me happy. But when you start doing that the stakes get higher, you have to really love the item and it better bring you happiness, dang it.
When I do get to display my items it does make me happy, it is just the items left in limbo and the fact I love to treasure hunt. Oh well, guess I'll just keep on a hunting and hoarding, while I thin the hoard out ever so often. I mean everyone has something right??

Ebay Find... Jadeite Salt Shaker

Hello vintage lovers!! I did a thing.... I bought something else off ebay even though it was said I wouldn't.... It just ate so bad at me that I only had the pepper shaker that I had to find the salt to go with it. I mean it this time no more buying off of ebay, any other jadeite I find will be from a thrift store, yard sale or antique mall. I ended up paying $26 for the shaker which I know is crazy but with the pepper (I got an amazing deal on it at an antique mall) the whole set came to $37 which I think is pretty good other sets sell for well over $40 with shipping. That is why I hate buying off line the dang shipping... The shaker itself was only 19.95 which isn't bad at all but that $9 shipping is what gets you.. Even though it is more than I really want to pay I am excited to complete my set.

Yard Sale Find... ceramic animals

Hello vintage lovers!! Yard sale season is in full swing and I have been trying to take advantage of it but the past few weeks have been slow not many sales. It is picking up again and I am excited about that. I found these cute ceramic figures and the owl candles at 2 different sales. I love the cute little owls and the crane family they are my favorite. For everything pictured I paid 3.25. The owl candle has a sticker that says made in gatlinburg tn and since we went there on vacation this year I thought that was really neat!

Mercari Find... Repro Jadeite

Hello vintage lovers!! I just could not help myself when I seen this grouping on mercari. I know it was all reproduciton but couldn't help myself. It was only $30 after shipping and the salt and pepper set sell for that alone on ebay. Since the items are repro I am going to use the shakers as my everyday one and give my pioneer woman set a rest. I have been wanting a juicer and I am not sure what the other item is but I'm sure I can find a use for it. The seller had this stuff wrapped so well, I will say I was a little concerned buying off line cause of breakage but all the people I bought from knew what they were doing. I am going to stop buying jadeite now 1. cause I don't need anymore and 2. pretty sure I used all my birthday money up.

Pioneer Woman Haul.... Baking Set

Hello vintage lovers!! It's been a while but here is a new pioneer woman haul! I have been trying to not buy any pioneer woman items unless I loved them. I bought the jadeite items in the spring but that is all I have purchased this year so far. Until this week LOL, as you have already read my birthday is coming up and I decided to use my money to get a few things I have had my eye on. This set has come up for sale a few times on walmart's website, it has a few items I have been searching for so I had it in my watch list. Hadn't purchased it cause the price with tax is around $45 which sounds like a lot but you do get a lot of items in the set. It comes with the metal measuring cups and spoons, a rubber spatula, ceramic citrus press, grater with cover, set of peelers and the items I wanted most the colander set and the bag clip set (these 2 items together are $20). I couldn't find those two items in any store close to me, and forget getting them online it is double even triple the cost then they charge shipping. I think this set is really nice and there are a couple things I won't be able to use out of the set so I will try to sell that stuff on ebay to get some of my money back.

Yard Sale Find... Jewelry

Hello vintage lovers!! This yard sale find post is all about jewelry. I found the few pieces at a flea market type yard sale. It is 2 pairs of clip on earrings (I buy clip ons in case I want to wear them since my holes have closed up) and a pin (not sure if it is bakelite or not) with rhinestones. All of these pieces was only $1 for all of it!!

Ebay Find... Jadeite Jane Ray Fire King Cream and Sugar Set

Hello vintage lovers!! Here is my other ebay find that I mentioned in my batter bowl post. Another birthday present to me LOL! This is the jane ray by fire king cream and sugar set. I got this set for $29 with shipping and it is in very good condition. There are a few flea bite chips around the sugar bowl lid but that is all. I was super excited to find this set with the sugar bowl lid, most of the time that is missing. The price was really reasonable other sets are $45+ also found a listing that had the batter bowl and this set with shipping it was $89.... So I think my $55 for the items I found doesn't seem so bad.

Yard Sale Find... German made Weather Station

Hello vintage lovers!! This post is a yard sale find, there was only 1 yard sale last weekend but I still managed to find something. When I seen this weather station on the table I had to have it. My grandparents had one of these in their laundry room and I loved looking at it. When it is warm you put the lady out the door, when it is rainy you put the man in his rain coat out. This was only $1 and worth it for the good memories alone.

A Look Back.....

It was pretty funny to me, I was looking back on my old posts and it seems I go through fazes in my collecting. I pick one particular item or category and run with it. I have done this all my life with my collections. I pick one thing or theme and buy the hell out of it, I only buy that particular item for a while then switch to something else.
One of my earliest memories was from being around 8 years old and my grandma taking me to a yard sale. I came upon a big beautiful unicorn statue, she was white, pink and purple iridescent. I loved her, she also had a couple little friends that were not shiny but still colorful with her. I asked my grandma (more like begged her) to buy me the unicorns for my room. Since it was all under $2 she didn't have a problem doing it for me. Thus the unicorn craze began and I was on the hunt for them till I had a whole shelf full. At the time unicorns where going out in the late 80s so it wasn't too hard to find good deals on the fad that was dieing out. I moved on from this collection a year (when I was a kid it took a little longer for me to switch collections, now it is more like months) or so later, I believe it went to pugs or maybe trolls but my unicorns was probably my favorite collection as a child. Think I may have 1 packed away somewhere, I need to get her out for old times sake.
As you can see I have moved from everything kitchen to pyrex to jadeite and also jewelry (I know so random but for some reason I love it at the moment). Also another one of my many quirks is if I find something at a sale or thrift store and there is more than one and they are cheap enough I have to buy them all... Kinda like an adult version of pokemon, gotta have them all. So sorry to over run you with a bunch of posts with the same theme but that is what I am focusing my money on right now. Who knows what it will be in a couple of months.....

Antique Mall Find..... Jadeite Shakers

Hello vintage lovers!! This post is for an antique mall find.. This past weekend myself, mom and grandma went out of town. We found ourselves at a big antique mall, there was a lot of nice stuff I wanted but a little out of my price range. I came upon these two shakers in a booth one had a tag on it but the pepper did not so I assumed they were together and the price was right cause they had 30% off. When I got up front though I was told they were supposed to be separate (of course). They gave me a good deal, not as good as I thought I was getting but after seeing the prices online I can't complain too much. I ended up paying $22 for both shakers, considering the pepper sells for $30+ online I did good. The little shaker must have been for spices of some kind, it doesn't have anything written on it but I love it! As you can tell jadeite is my obsession right now... I am pretty happy with my collection, only a few more items till I have all of my list but of course if I see something I like I'm going to get it!

Goodwill Find... Miller Studios Chalkware Fish Plaques New in Box...

Hello vintage lovers!! This is a goodwill find post. This particular find came from a goodwill out of my area. I usually find some good vintage items from this store and this trip did not disappoint. The best find was this new in package miller studios chalkware fish plaques, I just love chalkware (of course I do). These koa fish are real beauties and they were only 1.99! Not sure what to do with them yet cause I do not have a fish themed bathroom but could not leave them there.

Ebay Find... Jadeite Batter Bowl

Hello vintage lovers!! This post is something I really never saw myself doing... I actually bought a vintage item off of ebay, I did this for my birthday it is later this month and I really wanted some vintage jadeite pieces. I really have no luck finding these items out in the wild where I live and if I do they are just too expensive for my budget. With my birthday coming up I usually get some money so this is what I am spending it on this year! I found this very good condition batter bowl for $25 with shipping on ebay and I do believe that I got a good deal on that with the condition it is in. I have never seen one of these out thrifting but have seen them online. They do go for around $35+ with shipping usually. I did order a couple more things but I do not see myself doing this after my birthday cause even though they are good deals it is way more than I am used to paying. Like I have mentioned in other post though I do not find jadeite in my area.

Yard Sale Find... anchor hocking alice tea cups

Hello vintage lovers!! I can not believe I am writing this yard sale find post. I posted a couple of  weeks ago about finding the anchor hocking/fire king alice saucers at a yard sale for a 1.00 a piece. Well this past weekend I found the matching cups for .50 a piece. I could not believe it, it was meant to be. The cups were grubby like the plates (may be able to see in last pic) but they came clean with a little tlc. Now I have two complete sets of the cups and saucers for my collection for only $3!

Christmas in July.... Noel Santa mugs..

Hello vintage lovers!! It is another Christmas in July!! I went to a benefit yard sale this weekend and found these cuties. I could not pass them up, I have a few santa cups but these spell out noel and they all have different expressions on their faces!! They are in pristine condition (the previous owner put green felt on the bottom but I am not mad about it) only one has a paint rub on his cheek. Other than that they are perfect. I only paid .25 a piece for them!! I could not believe my luck!
