Hello vintage lovers!! Today I am writing a post about collecting and does it really bring you happiness?? I do feel like looking for and finding an item does bring happiness but what comes after... That is a whole other story..
I am not one of those perfect collectors, I do not buy something take it straight home and display it. No, I am more of a "I love this let's buy it then I can put it in a box somewhere till I have a place to put it" collector. Maybe if you are a bring straight home and display collector you are happier (????).
Don't get me wrong I love my stuff that is for sure and I love the thrill of the hunt but what I don't love is the hoard that is accumulating. That for sure does not bring happiness but I have thinned my hoard some. I had a yard sale a month ago and got rid of some plus what didn't sell went straight to salvation army. I wasn't bringing that stuff back into the house no way.
I had emotionally gotten rid of it even if it didn't sell. Because you see I am a hoarder but I am also trying to work on that. I have to be ready to get rid of something to sell it or donate, so I have to be emotionally unattached to the item. Most of the time there is not an emotional attachment I just think there is money to be made for more thrifting and do not want to get rid of it because of that.
Plus I have gotten to a point where I am no longer just thrift shopping/going to yard sales. I have crossed over to online shopping (shutter) for my vintage items. Which I said would never happen but I guess it is true to never say never. Also I do want to say that the only items that have been bought off line are things I truly wanted and do make me happy. But when you start doing that the stakes get higher, you have to really love the item and it better bring you happiness, dang it.
When I do get to display my items it does make me happy, it is just the items left in limbo and the fact I love to treasure hunt. Oh well, guess I'll just keep on a hunting and hoarding, while I thin the hoard out ever so often. I mean everyone has something right??
